Taxonomy/description: demonstrates the reaction of complete identity with polyclonal antiserum against Rhodococcus erythropolis IEGM 7T(4); shows positive result with Rhodococcus erythropolis primers in species-specific PCR (245). Properties: uses normal hydrocarbons, aliphatic alcohols (butan-2-ol, ethanol, propan-1-ol, propan-1,2,3-triol) and aromatic hydrocarbons (naphthalene, oxybenzene, xylol) as sole carbon source; produces biosurfactants when growing on n-alkanes (C10-C16) (235, 254).
